Our History
The Soul Movement launched its first service on September 17, 2008, with 27 people in attendance. Today, the Soul Movement has an active congregation of approximately 190 people, with over 70% being singe twenty-somethings.
The Soul Movement was birthed out of the vision of Leonard and Thais Moore, Wayne and Jasmine Williams, and Darren Kelly. Believing that the city of Austin needed a new church to meet the needs of young families, young professionals, college students, and relocating out-of towners, they launched the vision of The Soul Movement on a napkin at Plucker’s wing spot near the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
Armed with a vision to take the Gospel to a group of people traditionally not looking to attend church, they believed God, and with no money, no building, and no support network, they stepped out on faith and launched The Soul Movement.
As we celebrate two years in ministry at the Khabele School, we realize how good God has been to us. It’s amazing to see how God is working through every person and family in our church.
